'All Year Round' dwarf tomatoes |
How to grow dwarf tomato plants.Plants are shipped as small plug plants. Allot of people think they can just plant these into any container and off you go. Not right, a small plant needs a small pot to start off life, usually a 6-7cm pot. Once the plants roots have developed, and filled the pot (3-4 weeks) these plants can then be transferred to a larger 1 litre pot, and stay in the pot of this size on a sunny windowsill, or conservatory. The compost quality is key here. A good quality compost will give you better plants. Riddle the compost to remove anything bigger than 10mm. Add a small amount of sand, perlite, or vermiculite to aid drainage so the plant does not have to sit in permanent wet compost. The plants may need support once fruit develops, just use a few small canes either side of the plant to help with support. Water once, once potted, then allow the compost to dry out before watering again, this encourages the roots to grow. feed once a week with a general purpose liquid tomato feed, then feed 1/2 strength every watering once fruit appears. |
