Bare Root Hostas

We supply bare root Hostas from September until March. They are simply a plant without any compost. We can send you this item because the plant is in dormancy during this time, and this means we can save on postage costs, making the plant cheaper for you. This does not mean you receive an inferior product !

You will need to pot the bare root plant onto a 9cm pot, with a compost that also contains some drainage, eg perlite, sharp sand, etc.

Do not let the plant sit in water over winter, but also do not let the compost dry out. Frost is usually not a problem, but keeping the young plant in cold greenhouse over winter will help protect the plant, or somewhere facing south, against a warm house wall, will suffice.

There is no need to feed, until Spring shows life starting again.

Do not trim the roots, simply place in a pot and fill with compost, making sure the top of the plant sits at the top of the compost.
